Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber has warned that South Africa will not tolerate the abuse of its immigration system, following the arrest of seven Kenyan nationals in Johannesburg.
Schreiber said the seven individuals had been granted tourist visas but were later found to be working illegally, in violation of the conditions of their entry into the country.
The minister also dismissed reports claiming that two American officials were arrested during a sting operation, describing the claims as false.
In a separate matter, Schreiber clarified that none of the 153 Palestinian travellers who arrived at OR Tambo International Airport last month applied for asylum in South Africa.
He made the clarification in a written parliamentary response to a question posed by Al Jama-ah MP Imraan Ismail-Moosa regarding his intervention in the matter. The group of 153 Palestinians landed in Johannesburg on the 13th of last month.
Schreiber reiterated that the Department of Home Affairs would continue to enforce immigration laws and take action against those who contravene visa conditions.
