The Mpumalanga High Court sitting in Middelburg is on Thursday expected to hand down sentences to a farm owner, his son and six farmworkers convicted of killing two men at the Pampoenskraal farm in Mkhondo in 2020.
The group farm owner Werner Potgieter, his son Cornelius Greyling and their employees abducted Sthembiso Thwala, Sifiso Thwala and Musa Nene, forcing them into the boot of a vehicle before taking them to the farm, where they were severely assaulted. Two of the men died as a result of the attack, while one survived.
The victims had been travelling to Driefontein to deliver groceries and money when their vehicle broke down, leaving them stranded before they were targeted.
Thursday’s sentencing is expected to bring an end to a case that has drawn significant public attention and condemnation.
