Parents in Gauteng have expressed frustration with the province’s online school admissions system, calling for it to be reviewed or scrapped entirely.

While nearly 90% of applicants for Grades 1 and 8 have already been placed, some parents are still waiting to learn which schools their children will attend next year. The number of applicants for 2026 already exceeds the 2025 intake, highlighting the growing demand for school placements.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said there are currently no plans to abandon the online system, dismissing claims that the department’s website experienced outages. The placement process is scheduled to be completed by 12 December.

Chiloane added that preparations for the 2027 admissions cycle will begin earlier in the year to improve efficiency and reduce delays.
