Several major websites including former US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform and design tool Canva were knocked offline on Friday after a brief disruption linked to internet services company Cloudflare.
Users attempting to access the affected sites were met with error messages referencing Cloudflare until service was largely restored around 09:30 GMT.
Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer, Dane Knecht, confirmed the issue in a post on X at 09:20 GMT, emphasising that the outage was not the result of a cyberattack. “We are aware of the issue impacting the availability of Cloudflare’s network,” he wrote.
Reports poured in throughout the morning from frustrated users struggling to access a range of platforms. Cloudflare, which provides security, traffic management and optimisation services for websites and apps, plays a critical role in global internet infrastructure. The company says it manages roughly 20% of the world’s internet traffic.
This is the second major disruption in recent weeks. A mid-November Cloudflare outage similarly took several high-traffic sites offline for hours.
The company has not yet provided further details on Friday’s incident, but normal service was restored swiftly compared to previous disruptions.
