A Durban man accused of murdering his wife at a pub in Westville returned to the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Thursday for his bail hearing.
Fredrik le Roux, 63, is charged with the premeditated murder of his wife, Taryn le Roux, who was shot and killed in September.
Le Roux’s defence attorney, Waseem Hofse, read his affidavit into the record, in which the accused argued that the State has a weak case against him. He urged investigators to rely on the full CCTV footage from the day of the incident, rather than selected excerpts.
Le Roux told the court he lost his job following his arrest and said his three adult children depend on him emotionally and see him as a role model. He added that he also cares for a foster son he shared with his late wife.
In his affidavit, Le Roux said that if granted bail, he would attempt to regain his employment, remain in South Africa, and hand over his passport. He further claimed he is being unfairly judged by relatives and the media.
The State is opposing bail.
Outside the courtroom, friends, family and supporters of Taryn le Roux gathered, calling for bail to be denied and for justice to take its course.
