The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has upgraded severe weather warnings for KwaZulu-Natal, with parts of the province now placed under an Orange Level 5 alert as thunderstorms intensify.
The upgraded warning affects King Cetshwayo, Zululand, and the uMkhanyakude District Municipality. Forecaster Nhlanhla Sithole says the region should brace for dangerous conditions.
“The thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by hail, excessive lightning, damaging winds, and flooding,” Sithole said.
The rest of the province remains under a Yellow Level 4 alert, with widespread thunderstorms expected throughout the day. In addition, a Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for most parts of KZN excluding the northeastern areas for Tuesday.
Residents are urged to take extra precautions as the severe weather system moves across the province.
