eThekwini Municipality says it is fully prepared to welcome an estimated 1.3 million visitors over the year-end holiday season, with officials assuring the public that beach water quality remains a top priority.

The city confirmed that all 23 beaches along its coastline are currently safe for swimming, following ongoing water quality testing ahead of the festive rush.

In a statement, municipal officials said all public swimming pools along the Golden Mile have been cleaned and refilled, adding that safety measures will be strictly enforced throughout the holiday period. Residents and tourists were reminded that swimming under the influence of alcohol is prohibited, and jumping off piers is not allowed.

Authorities stressed that instructions from law enforcement officers, lifeguards, and pool supervisors must be followed at all times.

Last month, eThekwini deployed 500 lifeguards across its coastline to bolster safety as crowds increase.

City officials say they have “pulled out all the stops” to ensure visitors enjoy a safe and memorable festive season in Durban sun, sand, and hopefully no drama, except the kind you choose to bring yourself.
