Eskom has announced a profit of R24-billion for the six months ending September 2025, marking a sharp improvement in the utility’s financial and operational performance.

The power utility attributes the positive results to the effective rollout of its turnaround strategy and what it describes as strong, decisive leadership. The announcement comes as the current board reaches the end of its term.

According to Eskom’s statement, electricity supply reached 96% in the 2024/25 financial year and has risen to 98% so far this year. Load shedding has also significantly eased.

“Load shedding was limited to just 26 hours during evening peaks on four days, with an estimated 36GWh lost. No load shedding has been implemented since 15 May 2025,” the utility said.

Eskom highlighted key operational gains, including the commercial operation of Kusile Unit 6, adding 799MW of base-load capacity, and the return of Medupi Unit 4 to service after extensive repairs, restoring 720MW of nominal base-load power.

The utility says the results strengthen confidence in its long-term recovery as it works to stabilise South Africa’s energy supply.
