Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has called on all South Africans to play their part in reducing road fatalities as the country enters its busy festive season. She was speaking on Sunday during the launch of the Arrive Alive campaign near Kroonstad in the Free State.
The minister said the annual campaign will combine public awareness drives with intensified law-enforcement operations, including additional patrols, roadblocks, and stricter checks on speeding and drunk driving.
Creecy urged motorists, pedestrians and passengers to make responsible decisions on the road, stressing that simple everyday choices can save lives.
“Drivers, pedestrians and passengers make important choices on the roads every day. When we make the right choices, we arrive alive,” she said.
“Our festive season campaign is aimed at ensuring that each and every one of us makes the correct choices on the roads so that we can go home for our family reunions, enjoy well-deserved breaks, take part in celebrations, and return safely home.”
