Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for five suspects who escaped from the Lydenburg Police Station over the weekend. A sixth escapee was rearrested in the same area on Sunday.
According to authorities, the group broke out by digging a hole through a cell wall before fleeing on foot. The suspects were being held on serious charges, including murder, rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and malicious damage to property.
Police have appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in tracking down the remaining fugitives.
The suspect who was rearrested is expected to appear in the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
