A 34-year-old Mpumalanga man has begun serving four life sentences after the Mpumalanga High Court handed down judgment on Tuesday.

Bongani Nkosi pleaded guilty to raping four women, aged between 16 and 28, in a series of attacks committed in Jeppes Reef, Nkomazi, between February 2016 and July 2019.

Provincial police spokesperson Mpho Nonyane-Mpe confirmed that the court also ruled Nkosi unfit to work with children. His name will be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders.

Police have welcomed the sentence, saying it brings long-awaited justice to the victims and sends a clear message to perpetrators of gender-based violence.
