KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested four men, aged between 39 and 49, for allegedly conspiring to carry out an armed robbery at a supermarket in Nquthu. One of the suspects is also facing a charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm.

The arrests were made on Monday, 24 November 2025, after Mzinyathi District Crime Intelligence received information about a planned robbery. Once officers gathered full details of the alleged plot, they enlisted the support of the Glencoe K9 Unit to intercept the suspects and prevent the crime.

At around 15:00, police spotted four men matching the suspects’ descriptions near the targeted supermarket. Officers moved in and apprehended them. During the search, one suspect was found with an unlicensed firearm, while the other three were carrying firearms legally registered in their names.

All four suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit an armed robbery, and the 49-year-old man found with the unlicensed weapon faces an additional firearm charge.

He is expected to appear in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court today, 25 November 2025, while the remaining three suspects are scheduled to appear on Wednesday, 26 November 2025.
