National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi is set to continue giving evidence before the Nkabinde Inquiry when hearings resume in Pretoria on Monday.
The inquiry is examining the fitness of suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, to remain in office. Chauke faces allegations that he interfered with key criminal prosecutions and protected high-profile individuals from accountability.
Proceedings were cut short on Friday after the inquiry’s team reported operational challenges affecting its preparedness. Chairperson, retired Justice Bess Nkabinde, instructed the team to urgently resolve the issues to prevent further delays.
In a firm address, Nkabinde urged the inquiry’s officials to improve coordination and maintain focus on their mandate.
“For expediency, it will be proper that you work as a team,” she said. “We should not be going back and forth the way we have done. We are here to serve the country, to present evidence and to assist this inquiry.”
Batohi’s continued testimony is expected to shed further light on the allegations surrounding Chauke as the inquiry pushes ahead with its work.
