A man has been shot and killed in Isipingo, south of Durban, after gunmen opened fire on his vehicle along Lotus Drive in Lotus Park on Thursday afternoon.
PT Alarms spokesperson Dhevan Govindsamy says an unknown number of suspects ambushed the victim while he was driving. A second person was critically injured in the attack and was rushed to hospital for urgent medical care.
According to Govindsamy, police and local Community Policing Forum members responded swiftly, but the assailants fled before authorities arrived.
“Unfortunately, people just heard screaming and gunshots, and saw a white vehicle speeding off. No one really wants to disclose more information I think due to fear,” he said.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Isipingo police have taken over the investigation and spent the afternoon combing the area for evidence and clues. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
