Stars of Netflix’s fantasy drama The Witcher revealed they were stranded on a boat in north Wales after 19th-century explosives were discovered nearby during filming.

In a promotional interview for the show’s fourth season, Liam Hemsworth and Joey Batey recounted their “pretty exciting” time filming on Llyn Padarn in Gwynedd. Batey explained that the cast spent two weeks on a boat, and on one day were instructed by crew on shore to remain on the water.

“There were no crew on the boat just us hiding protein bars and snacks around this raft,” Batey said. “We radioed, ‘Can we come back to shore, please?’ and they said, ‘Well, don’t panic.’”

The actors were informed that the bomb squad was on the way, and the safest place for them was to stay on the boat. Batey also shared a humorous moment involving Laurence Fishburne, who plays Emiel Regis, joking about the situation.

Hemsworth recalled a loud explosion later while he was in his trailer eating lunch, prompting him to check if everyone was safe.

Hemsworth has taken over the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill for the final two seasons. Filming for the series also took place at Doldabarn Castle and a nearby quarry in Gwynedd.

The incident highlights the unexpected challenges faced while filming on location in scenic but historic areas of Wales.
