Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has handed over his electronic devices to authorities as investigations continue into allegations of corruption, political interference, and links to criminal syndicates.

The devices include a state-issued laptop, a personal tablet, two unused cellphones, and one active cellphone currently in use.

Mchunu, who is currently on a leave of absence, said in a statement on Friday that he has “nothing to hide” and fully supports any lawful investigation intended to uphold transparency and accountability in public office.

He added that he is confident due process will confirm that his conduct has been “ethical, lawful, and consistent with his duties as a member of the Executive.”

The allegations were first made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a media briefing earlier this year, claiming that Mchunu interfered in police matters and had inappropriate dealings with criminal elements.

Mchunu has denied all wrongdoing, describing the claims as unfounded.

Last month, he appeared before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating Mkhwanazi’s accusations. During the session, Mchunu defended his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team, saying he would have made the same call again, though he conceded it could have been handled differently.

He explained that the move was based on concerns about financial management within the task team, not an attempt to obstruct its work.
