uMngeni-uThukela Water has confirmed that it is investigating serious allegations made by employees against a senior official within the organisation.

This comes after a group of disgruntled workers staged a picket outside the utility’s headquarters in Pietermaritzburg earlier this week. The employees accuse the official of authoritarian conduct, which they say has created a hostile working environment within her department.

Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo says the organisation has received a formal memorandum from the protesting employees and is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

“We have taken note of the memorandum submitted by a group of employees. It is currently being dealt with through internal processes,” Maphumulo said.

He added that any necessary action will be guided by the organisation’s policies and procedures.

“If there is a need to take appropriate action, such action will be taken,” he assured.

The investigation is ongoing, and uMngeni-uThukela Water says it remains committed to upholding fair labour practices and maintaining a conducive work environment.
