As a cold front sweeps across parts of the country, the South African Weather Service has issued two warnings for KwaZulu-Natal, urging residents to brace for strong winds and a sharp drop in temperatures.
A Yellow Level 1 alert has been issued for damaging coastal winds between Port Edward and Cape Vidal. The gusty conditions could disrupt operations at small harbours and ports, with small vessels at risk of capsizing.
In addition, a Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for strong winds in the north-western interior of the province. These conditions may lead to localised damage to informal settlements and pose risks to transport routes due to falling trees or debris.
Forecaster Masego Nhlapho has advised the public to take precautions, especially in vulnerable areas.
“We are expecting a 30% chance of showers and rain over the eastern parts of KZN on Friday,” she said. “Temperatures are expected to drop, with cold to cool conditions in the west and cool to warm weather in the east.”
Residents are encouraged to secure loose items, exercise caution while travelling, and stay updated on further weather alerts.
