A northern KwaZulu-Natal father has been sentenced to four life terms for the repeated rape of his own children, a judgment that a children's rights group believes sends a powerful message against abuse. The 41-year-old man, whose family resided in the Hluhluwe area, was found guilty of assaulting his children between 2015 and 2019, when they were aged between two and eight years old.

During the trial at the Eshowe Regional Court, the children testified that their father would call them inside from playing and then rape them. Despite his not-guilty plea, the court convicted him on all charges.

Adeshni Naicker of KZN Childline emphasized that the protection of children is a collective responsibility and urged communities to report any suspected abuse. "We are deeply disappointed by the abuse but praise the courage of the survivors for speaking out," Naicker stated. "We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected abuse."

Childline reiterated its commitment to supporting affected children and families, offering free counseling, support, and advocacy. The organization encourages anyone needing help or wishing to report abuse to call their 24/7 toll-free helpline at 116.
