The death toll from the devastating floods in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, has risen to 97, as search teams recover more bodies while continuing efforts to locate the missing.

A high-level delegation from various government departments visited flood-stricken communities on Sunday to assess the damage and oversee relief operations. The floods, which struck the region two weeks ago, have left thousands of families displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

Government departments are working to support affected residents by providing emergency relief and helping them replace critical documents lost in the disaster. Rescue teams remain on the ground as the province continues to grapple with the aftermath of one of its worst natural disasters in recent years.
