The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has confirmed that the victims of a tragic bus crash on the R34 near Vryheid were party supporters returning from a Youth Day rally in Durban.
EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said the bus was carrying members of the party when it was struck by an oncoming truck just after midnight. Authorities report that the impact tore open the side of the bus, leading to the deaths of twelve people and injuries to 32 others, with twelve currently in serious condition.
Thambo added that the EFF is working closely with families to assist in the identification of the deceased and to provide necessary support during this difficult time.
Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
