U.S. aerospace giant Boeing has expressed its condolences and pledged full support to Air India following the tragic crash of Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, went down shortly after takeoff, with officials confirming no survivors.
“We are in contact with Air India regarding Flight 171 and stand ready to support them,” Boeing said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the passengers, crew, first responders and all affected.”
Earlier in the day, Boeing said it was working to gather more details about the incident, which marks the first recorded crash of a 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft entered service.
Ahmedabad city police commissioner GS Malik confirmed to AFP that the crash site, located in a residential area near the airport, showed no signs of survivors. The aircraft’s sudden descent and impact have prompted a multi-agency investigation as emergency crews continue search and recovery operations.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
