Two suspects are set to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday in connection with the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) MP Khethamabala Sithole.
Sithole was fatally shot during a community meeting at a hostel in Katlehong, on Gauteng’s East Rand, last week. His death has sparked outrage and concern over political violence in the region.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, three individuals were initially taken in for questioning. “Two suspects, aged 30 and 32, have been directly linked to the murder. The third person was released after questioning,” he confirmed.
Masondo added that the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests are anticipated.
Sithole’s memorial service is scheduled to take place in Germiston on Thursday afternoon, where colleagues, friends, and supporters are expected to pay tribute to the late MP.
