While Rand Water has successfully completed key maintenance work on its infrastructure across Gauteng, some areas in Johannesburg remain without water as the second phase of the project rolls out.
The large-scale upgrade programme, which began last Thursday, has already affected water supply in several municipalities. The first phase, completed on Monday, primarily impacted parts of Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.
Rand Water has since moved into phase two of its scheduled maintenance, with water tankers deployed to assist residents in the hardest-hit areas as supply disruptions persist.
The bulk water supplier is undertaking extensive servicing of its systems to improve long-term reliability, but the necessary work has led to widespread short-term inconvenience.
This latest round of upgrades is part of a broader plan to stabilise Gauteng’s aging water infrastructure and is expected to continue through July.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period, as the utility works to restore consistent supply across all affected communities.
