The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has issued a traffic advisory notifying motorists of scheduled partial lane closures on the N3 northbound fast lane between Key Ridge and the Hammarsdale Interchange. The closures are set for Saturday, 31 May and Sunday, 1 June 2025, from 09h00 to 15h00, to allow for surveying work as part of the N3 Section 2 Realignment Project.
According to Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer, the closures are necessary for the safe and accurate surveying of existing traffic lanes.
“Fast lane closures will be implemented between the N3/M13 and Hammarsdale interchanges to facilitate this survey. The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), along with the contractor’s traffic management team, will oversee and manage the flow of traffic during the process,” said Lowe.
Closure Schedule:
- 09:00 – 09:15: Closure of the N3 fast lane
- 09:15 – 14:45: Survey operations
- 14:45 – 15:00: Reopening of the N3 fast lane
Motorists are advised to use the R103 as an alternative route during this period.
SANRAL has urged road users to plan their journeys accordingly, adhere to posted speed limits, and exercise patience during the scheduled work.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation as we work to improve the national road network,” Lowe added.
