Former Springbok wing Cornal Hendricks has passed away at the age of 37, South African Rugby confirmed on Thursday. Hendricks died on Wednesday evening after suffering a heart attack.

Hendricks made his international debut in 2014, earning 12 Test caps for the Springboks and scoring five tries. He also enjoyed a successful domestic career, playing for Boland, the Cheetahs, and later the Bulls.

In 2016, his promising run was interrupted when he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition shortly after signing a two-year contract with Western Province and the Stormers. However, in 2019, Hendricks returned to professional rugby with the Bulls following an improvement in his health.

During his five-year stint with the Pretoria-based side, he made 115 appearances and scored 34 tries across all competitions.

The Blue Bulls Rugby Union has extended its heartfelt condolences to Hendricks’ family, friends, and former teammates.
