A fire that broke out at a shopping mall in Umhlanga's Central Business District on Sunday evening prompted a rapid response from KZNVIP Emergency Services and firefighting teams.

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the premises as first responders arrived on scene. Mall security had already begun evacuating shoppers and staff, while the area was cordoned off to ensure public safety during emergency operations.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the mall.

According to KZNVIP, four individuals were treated on-site for smoke inhalation. Two were later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care after being stabilized at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Authorities have confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine how the incident began.

All relevant emergency services—including fire, medical, and law enforcement—remained on site through the evening to secure the area and assist with further assessments.
