A man in his 40s has been killed in a devastating head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a car in Hammarsdale, west of Durban.

The crash occurred on Tuesday along Mthoko Mkhize Drive, also known as Hammarsdale Main Road. According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the man was trapped in the wreckage and was declared dead at the scene.

“Paramedics assessed the man, but unfortunately, there was nothing they could do for him,” said Jamieson.

Four other people sustained injuries in the crash. They were stabilised on-site before being transported to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.

Emergency teams remain on the scene, and motorists have been urged to proceed with caution due to delays in the area.

In a separate incident, four people have died following a collision on the N2 in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape.

The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning near the KwaNokuthula intersection. A vehicle and a bus were involved in the collision, which took place at approximately 2:20 am.

Western Cape Mobility Department spokesperson Muneera Allie confirmed the fatalities, adding that emergency teams are still attending the scene. A stop-and-go traffic system has been implemented while authorities work to clear the area.

“All teams are on site. A stop and go is currently in place until the scene is cleared,” Allie stated.

Investigations into both crashes are currently underway.
