A woman arrested in connection with the arson attack on Kelly Smith’s home is appearing in the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court today.
The incident occurred just hours after Smith was convicted of kidnapping and trafficking her daughter, Joshlin. Her home in Middelpos was set alight shortly after the judgment was handed down.
Smith, along with her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis and his friend Stevano van Rhyn, was found guilty in connection with the case that shocked the nation.
Despite the convictions, Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile confirmed that the search for six-year-old Joshlin is ongoing. The child’s missing person docket remains open, and police have vowed to continue pressing Smith for answers about her daughter’s whereabouts.
Authorities say they are not ruling out further arrests as investigations continue.
