Authorities have launched an investigation into a deadly head-on collision that claimed the lives of four people on the R33 near Vryheid on Sunday evening.
According to KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha, the crash scene was described as “emotional and chaotic” when paramedics arrived.
"Four occupants had sustained fatal injuries and sadly succumbed to their injuries before emergency services could arrive," Botha confirmed.
Amid the wreckage, paramedics discovered a critically injured child. Working alongside Fire and Rescue personnel, emergency teams managed to stabilise and safely extricate the child from the vehicle. The young patient was then rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are now the subject of an official probe, with authorities seeking to determine what led to the tragic incident.
