Motorists travelling through parts of KwaZulu-Natal are being urged to proceed with caution as several major routes have been affected by ongoing roadworks, closures, and deteriorating road conditions.
On the R33, traffic restrictions are currently in place north of Paulpietersburg due to ongoing construction. Drivers should also be wary of poor road surface conditions along this route, particularly between Dundee and Bloedrivier, as well as between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg.
The R74 is also in a state of disrepair, with severely degraded road conditions reported between Winterton and the N3 Highway, making travel potentially hazardous.
Further south, the R617 is experiencing traffic restrictions north of Kokstad, while the R602 has been completely closed at a section between Dundee and Ladysmith due to a road subsidence issue.
Authorities are advising road users to plan ahead, consider alternate routes where possible, and to reduce speed in affected areas. Maintenance and repair timelines have not yet been confirmed.
