City Power has suspended all restoration work in the Vezinyawo area of Alexandra after technicians were attacked and kidnapped while on duty.

According to the utility, a group of individuals confronted the workers, forcefully taking the keys to three City Power vehicles and demanding the immediate restoration of electricity in the area.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena strongly condemned the incident, confirming that a criminal case has been opened with police.

“We want to make it clear that City Power will not resume any restoration or service work in Vezinyawo until all the meters we’ve installed across Alexandra are back in place, and residents are complying with electricity payments,” Mangena said.

The utility says the safety of its staff remains a top priority and is urging community members to refrain from acts of intimidation and cooperate with ongoing efforts to regularise electricity supply in the area.
