An elderly couple is recovering in hospital following a serious accident on the R102 near Glen Anil on Monday, after their vehicle struck a pothole and overturned.
According to KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo, the couple’s grandson was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. “Passing motorists who witnessed the incident stopped to assist and helped remove the occupants from the overturned vehicle,” he said.
KZN VIP medics provided on-site treatment before transporting all three individuals to nearby medical facilities for further care.
Naidoo added that the incident highlights growing concerns over deteriorating road conditions. “We’ve received numerous reports of severe potholes along the R102, which have caused significant damage to vehicles and contributed to several collisions. Metro Police were present at the scene.”
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while navigating the affected stretch of road.
