Firefighters from multiple agencies continue to wage a fierce battle against the devastating wildfire raging across Table Mountain, as aerial firefighting efforts were paused overnight.
Since igniting on Friday near the Tokai and Silvermine sections, the blaze has scorched nearly 3,000 hectares of vegetation. Preliminary investigations by Table Mountain officials suggest the fire may have been started deliberately, raising serious concerns of arson.
Trevor Abrahams, Managing Director of Working on Fire, reported that around 218 firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to contain the flames.
“Aerial resources are on standby to resume operations at first light. It’s an ongoing struggle,” Abrahams said. “Fortunately, we’ve been blessed with relatively moderate weather, especially the wind, which has been relatively benign and has greatly aided firefighting efforts.”
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
