A second fire has broken out at Tembisa Tertiary Hospital, this time affecting the facility's main Outpatient Department (OPD), located adjacent to the Accident and Emergency Unit that was damaged by fire just over the Easter weekend.
According to Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) spokesperson Motalatale Modiba, firefighters from the City of Ekurhuleni are currently on the scene battling the blaze. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage, and investigations are underway.
This latest incident comes mere days after another fire erupted in the hospital's emergency unit on Saturday, further raising concerns over the facility's safety and infrastructure integrity.
Modiba confirmed that patients were evacuated from the affected unit as a precautionary measure. No injuries have been reported so far.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while emergency services work to contain the fire. More details will be released as the situation develops.
