Level 4 Weather Warning Issued for Disruptive Rain in KwaZulu-Natal

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 4 Impact-Based Warning for disruptive rainfall expected across KwaZulu-Natal today, with the alert valid from 05:00 to 20:59. Areas affected include large parts of the province, with EThekwini Municipality among those at heightened risk.

According to SAWS, the rainfall is expected to cause widespread disruptions, with anticipated impacts including:

  • Flooding of informal settlements, roads, and bridges
  • Structural damage, particularly to mud-based homes
  • Hazardous driving conditions and road closures
  • Major traffic congestion and delays

Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines. These include staying indoors, avoiding unnecessary travel, and steering clear of flooded roads or rivers. The public is also advised to move valuable items and livestock to safer locations.

“If you are trapped in a vehicle during flooding, exit immediately and seek higher ground,” SAWS advised.

Durban Metro Police have confirmed they are on high alert and are prepared to respond to emergencies.
