More than R300 million has been allocated to four municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal to bolster water supply infrastructure and address ongoing shortages. The Ugu, Newcastle, and Amajuba municipalities will each receive R15 million, while Zululand Municipality is set to benefit from a combined allocation of over R270 million.
KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance spokesperson Senzo Mzila confirmed that Zululand will receive an additional R217.2 million through the Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant, in addition to the R55 million already earmarked for the municipality.
Mzila said the funding is part of a broader effort to expand water access across the province, especially in underserved rural areas.
“MEC Buthelezi highlighted that the increased funding, awarded based on the municipalities’ effective use of previous allocations, reflects government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring reliable water services for all communities in KwaZulu-Natal,” Mzila added.
The grants will be used to enhance and expand existing infrastructure, helping to ensure a more consistent and sustainable water supply to residents.
