Police have confiscated counterfeit and illicit goods valued at more than R7 million during a targeted operation conducted this week in Pretoria Central and Centurion.
The takedown operation focused on shops suspected of dealing in illegal merchandise, resulting in the seizure of over 2,000 counterfeit items. These included luxury-branded clothing, shoes, handbags, caps, watches, sunglasses, and belts.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the trade of counterfeit products, which poses a significant threat to the economy and legitimate businesses.
“This week’s operation is a continuation of our national crackdown. Just last month, with the support of various internal and external partners, law enforcement seized counterfeit goods worth more than R43 million across the country,” van Wyk said.
Authorities have warned that further operations are planned as part of a broader strategy to combat illicit trade and protect consumers from substandard and potentially harmful products.
