While the eThekwini Municipality has confirmed the temporary closure of three beaches, officials say it is too soon to determine whether they will remain off-limits over the upcoming Easter weekend.
Laguna Beach, Doonside Beach, and Winklespruit Beach have reportedly been closed to bathers due to concerns over water quality. However, the municipality has not confirmed any long-term closures.
Speaking to IOL, municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana clarified that no final decision has been made regarding the status of beaches for the Easter period.
“Water quality tests will be conducted again next week, and the results will determine whether the water at any of the beaches meets the required safety standards for public use,” Sisilana stated.
“At this time, the City cannot confirm any beach closures for the Easter long weekend,” she added.
The municipality has urged the public to stay updated through official channels as further announcements are expected once the test results are available.
