Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a distress call from a woman in Dawncrest, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday morning after she was allegedly attacked by her ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of her two children.
Upon arrival, officers saw a man fleeing the scene by jumping over a wall. The woman informed authorities that the suspect has a long history of abuse spanning over two decades, including assault, robbery, and property damage. She currently holds a protection order against him, and he has previously been arrested and remanded to Westville Prison.
She recounted a recent incident on April 7th, where the man allegedly tried to strangle her while demanding money for drugs. She handed him R85 in cash, prompting him to release his grip. The victim also claimed she is forced to pay him around R300 daily to prevent further attacks, even in the presence of her disabled child.
The house is heavily secured with locks and chains, but the suspect managed to break down a door during a recent altercation.
Despite a joint search by RUSA and SAPS Verulam, the 49-year-old suspect remains at large.
