The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and destructive winds affecting Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, and parts of Limpopo. The warning, which is in place due to ongoing weather conditions, cautions residents of potential disruptions and hazardous conditions.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela explained that a cut-off low pressure system, which has been influencing the southwestern parts of the country for the past two days, is responsible for the severe weather. The system is bringing cold air, resulting in a significant drop in temperatures and heavy rainfall across central and eastern regions, including Gauteng.

Gauteng is expected to experience cloudy and cool conditions, with scattered showers and thunderstorms continuing throughout the day. Similar conditions are forecast for Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal. While rain is expected to persist through the afternoon, a shift in weather patterns will begin tomorrow, with rainfall spreading to the eastern and coastal areas.

Residents are advised to remain alert as weather conditions continue to develop. Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
