The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Organised Crime and Anti-Gang Unit is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a 38-year-old Chinese national who was kidnapped in Gqeberha on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the man was en route to his business in Kariega after returning from the local fresh produce market. As he approached the M17 turnoff, suspects in a white Toyota Quantum opened fire, forcing the victim to halt his vehicle.
Three unidentified men then reportedly dragged the victim from his car and forced him into the minibus before fleeing the scene.
Authorities have confirmed that a case of attempted murder and kidnapping has been opened. No ransom demands have been made at this stage.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Van Rensburg, confirmed that all information received will be treated confidentially and urged anyone with leads to come forward.
“The SAPS Anti-Gang Unit is urgently seeking public assistance in tracing the kidnapped individual. The suspects remain at large,” said Van Rensburg.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact their nearest police station.
