Six people, including four children aged between four and 15, have tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision involving two sedans on the R510 near Zanzuk farm on Monday evening.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, all six victims were travelling in the same vehicle. Two occupants from the second car sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Lephalale Provincial Hospital.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, extended her condolences to the affected families and urged motorists to avoid reckless driving. Her spokesperson, Dali Tshifhiwa, confirmed that the cause of the accident remains under police investigation.

The department also reaffirmed its dedication to the "EDWARD" campaign – Every Day Without A Road Death – which encourages safer driving behaviour across the province.

In a separate incident in Mpumalanga, a crash involving a cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicle and an articulated truck on the R40 near the University of Mpumalanga on Tuesday morning led to severe traffic delays. The CIT vehicle collided with the rear of the truck, resulting in the death of a passenger at the scene.

Two other occupants in the CIT vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
