The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has issued a warning to landlords, urging them not to evict students, as the latest round of payments for accommodation is expected to be processed next week. The student funding body confirmed that the cut-off date for submissions is Tuesday, 9 April.
NSFAS has faced significant payment delays in recent months but reassured landlords that housing subsidies would be processed soon, following an earlier promise that payments would be finalized by the end of last week.
Spokesperson Ismail Mnisi clarified that NSFAS had requested a comprehensive list of students who have applied for accredited accommodation. This list will be reviewed and approved by the respective educational institutions to verify each student’s eligibility for accommodation or transport.
“NSFAS would like to reassure landlords that, for students not included in the global list from the solution partners, payments will still be processed according to the registration template submitted by the institutions,” Mnisi said.
The scheme is making efforts to resolve the delays and ensure that students do not face housing insecurity while awaiting the completion of the payment process.
