A day of leisure turned into a tragedy after a 24-year-old woman fell to her death from a roller coaster swing at Fun and Food Village amusement park near the Kapashera border on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, Priyanka, a sales manager from Chanakyapuri, had been visiting the amusement park with her fiancé, Nikhil. The couple had been enjoying water rides before heading to the amusement section of the facility.
According to police, the fatal accident occurred when the swing malfunctioned mid-ride.
"During the roller-coaster ride, when the swing reached its highest point, the stand gave way, causing Priyanka to fall straight down," a police official stated.
She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Nikhil, who witnessed the incident, alerted both Priyanka's family and local authorities.
Based on Nikhil’s statement, police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Her body was handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination.
Priyanka's brother, Mohit, has accused the park of gross negligence, alleging poor safety standards and a delayed medical response.
“She was taken to the hospital too late, and that delay cost her life,” he claimed. “If the ride was under repair or unsafe, why was it open to the public? The park is playing with people’s lives.”
Mohit also said a section of the amusement park, including the roller coaster ride, was closed off for repairs after the incident — further raising concerns about maintenance and operational protocols.
Priyanka and Nikhil had recently gotten engaged in February this year, and were reportedly planning their wedding.
As of now, Fun and Food Village has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
