A 42-year-old police officer from Eldorado Park, accused of murdering his 22-year-old girlfriend, Gauteng crime warden Chesnay Keppler, is set to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court today for a bail hearing.
Mandla Buthelezi allegedly shot and killed Keppler following a domestic dispute in December last year. Shortly after the incident, he was hospitalized after reportedly attempting to take his own life.
Following his discharge, Buthelezi made an initial court appearance, but the case was postponed. A subsequent hearing in February, scheduled to take place via video link, was also delayed due to a power outage.
Keppler’s family has been vocal in demanding justice, insisting that Buthelezi should not be granted bail.
