Hundreds of residents from Amaoti, located in the north of Durban, took to the streets on Thursday morning in an anti-crime march, urging immediate action to tackle escalating crime rates in their township. The protest, which is being closely monitored by Metro Police, calls for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to personally visit the area and address the concerns of the community.

The march follows a tragic incident on Saturday, when three people were shot and killed in their homes, prompting residents to block access to the area in protest. Sadly, during that protest, another shooting occurred, claiming the lives of two more individuals.

Metro Police spokesperson Boysie Zungu confirmed that the situation is being monitored by both SAPS and Metro Police forces. "The march, which began in Amaoti, has reached Verulam and is proceeding along the road. While there has been some disruption to traffic, the situation remains under control," Zungu said. "The only inconvenience is the temporary blockage of the road as the march continues."

Residents continue to demand urgent intervention from authorities to address their growing concerns over crime in the area.
