The Health Ombud is set to release the findings of its investigation into allegations of neglect and poor patient care at Helen Joseph Hospital.

The probe was launched after radio host Tom London publicly documented what he described as neglect and rude behavior by hospital staff. He hopes the report will lead to improvements in South Africa’s public healthcare system.

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) has acknowledged the challenges in state hospitals and the poor treatment of some patients. However, the union has defended healthcare workers, arguing they are operating under difficult conditions.

Denosa expects the report to highlight the impact of budget cuts on healthcare services and staff morale. The findings could influence future policy decisions regarding public hospital funding and management.
