Four suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were shot and killed in a dramatic exchange of gunfire with police on the R66 near Gingindlovu on Friday.
KZN police have linked the suspects to a series of recent heists in the province. Authorities discovered explosives in their vehicle, which they believe were intended for another planned robbery. Weapons were also recovered at the scene.
The deadly confrontation comes amid a surge in CIT attacks in KZN. The most recent incident occurred on Thursday on the N2 near Mtubatuba, where one of two targeted vehicles was bombed.
Police continue their investigations as they intensify efforts to dismantle CIT crime syndicates in the region.
