Three properties linked to an unemployed suspect were identified, and upon searching the premises, officers discovered thousands of Mandrax tablets hidden in various locations, including the boot of a Mercedes-Benz parked at one of the properties. Further drugs and a sum of approximately R29,000 were found in a hidden compartment inside a sofa at another residence.
In addition to the drugs, the two vehicles—a Mercedes-Benz and a Golf—were seized as part of the operation. The suspect, regarded as one of the local drug kingpins, was arrested and charged with drug possession and dealing. He is expected to appear in court soon.
The Madadeni community has repeatedly voiced concerns about the growing problem of children falling victim to drug dealers in the area. Police believe this arrest will be a significant blow to the local drug trade.
